Mark Anderson CB

Trustee of the NMRN Board and committee member of the Audit and Governance Committee and member of the Programme Board. Mark is also a Trustee for NMRN Hartlepool.

Mark served for 37 years in the Royal Navy and, in his final role, was the Rear Admiral responsible for navy operations, planning and intelligence at the Fleet Headquarters. He also headed the UK Submarine Service and was NATO Commander Submarines North.

During his naval career: he commanded both a frigate (Marlborough) and a nuclear submarine (Talent); participated in three defence reviews; led procurement for all underwater capabilities with an annual spend of £1bn; and was at some time a Crisis Manager, a Change Manager, a Teacher, a Secretary and a Diplomat.

He was made a Companion of the Bath in 2011 and holds the US Bronze Star for actions in the 2003 Iraq conflict. After the Navy, he completed 5 years on the Board of Ultra Electronics PLC, a FTSE 250 defence and electronics company with international reach, as Group Marketing Director. He is now an independent consultant and trains Labradors as hearing assistance dogs for a local charity.
